A lot of companies/users are using the pay as you go model for cloud resources. However nice this pay as you go model is, controlling cost in an easy manner is often not as easy. This is where aewacs helps you! No need to write your own complicated scripts nor check them.
aewacs helps you to create easy schedules for your cloud resources in order to pay only for the resources you are using.
Typically our customers use aewacs for:
aewacs is a SAAS-based online portal that allows cloud computing customers to schedule:
All this means that aewacs easily reduces your monthly cloud costs by 25% or more with just 10 minutes setup.
Follow these steps to easily setup your aewacs account:
When you create your aewacs account, aewacs will synchronise your EC2/autoscalinggroups within AWS. aewacs uses this synchronised data (metadata if you prefer) to control the status of your instances, scale up/down or stop autoscalinggroups and perform backups for EC2 instances, Storage Gateway, and RDS. aewacs does this based upon the various schedules you have created and applied.
aewacs does a first synchronization when you enter your AWS credentials after your account has been created. After that, aewacs checks every 10 minutes for possible changes in your AWS account. Any new discovered resources will appear in aewacs. Should you require faster synchronisation, there is a global and per resource option to manually synchronise.
Based upon your configured schedule(s) in aewacs the instances are started and stopped. aewacs does not terminate instances.
It’s good practice however to check the shutdown behaviour setting of your AWS instance. Default this is set to stop, but if you have changed this at launch it might be set to terminate.
Our advice is to have all instances set to shutdown behaviour ‘stop’ and have the termination protection checkmark selected.
Usually the instances in an autoscalinggroup are instantiated from a base AMI or even from scratch and loaded with the correct packages. Depending on the software packages that need to be configured, this process takes some time.
We have designed aewacs so that a stop of the autoscalinggroup actually preserves the instances. This way, aewacs saves costs and makes sure you can start the instances in your autoscalinggroup fast. This is especially useful for DEV/TEST or QA autoscalingroups that are not used 24x7.
Here at aewacs we make use of environment tags in our AWS console. We do this to group logical environment together like DEV/TEST/QA and PRD over multiple AWS accounts. We thought it would make sense to stop an entire environment at once.
Just create the tag ‘Environment’ with a value in your AWS console in the different AWS accounts and it will show up in aewacs. Now, if you have a schedule connected to an environment it will execute the relevant schedule on all the instances in various AWS accounts with that ‘Environment’ tag.
Even though this feature is designed to operate in more AWS accounts, you can use this in just one account as well.
